by Matthias Mader (10.03.2008) Fun-Punk has grown up. Consequently, Die Schröders called their new album "Endlich 18" (finally 18). Yet, how much has the current genre in common with the big names of the early 80s, how close are Die Schröders to the Mimmis, Goldenen Zitronen and Toten Hosen? A question that can hardly be answered because the similarities are as surprising as the differences are significant. Sonically, the times of rough riff-Punk have long gone, the 13 songs on "Endlich 18" are competently performed, powerfully produced and convince by their heavy Rock'n'Roll-side to it. On the other hand, when I listen to the opener, "Mädchen wie wir" ("Wir stehen total auf Brad Pitt, der is’n Hit") I recognize a lot of Die Ärzte-kind of Pop-mentality. Yet, the range of influences is far wider and reaches from Rio Reiser ("Immer mehr") via the Terrorgruppe (the Ska-like "Scheissband") to the much underrated NDW-heroes, Extrabreit ("Thomas").
