by Oliver Kube (20.09.2007) The eccentric Alternative-Metalheads, System Of A Down are pausing. But that is not to say that we don't get any new music of the guys. Their charismatic frontman, Serj Tankian is the first to break the silence. With the both extremely aggressive and catchy "Empty walls" begins an album that at least in parts is much closer to the sound of his band than many fans could have feared. Even "The unthinking majority", combining Polka elements with brute Metal, the epic "Feed us", and "Money" changing between melancholic Pop and Punk-like heavy parts could also come from S.O.A.D.. This far, this good. What makes this album recorded almost exclusively by Tankian alone so really interesting, however, is that parts of songs that are definitely different that the sound of his band, such as the (also lyrically) unusually sillily tralala-song, "Lie, lie, lie" or the almost classic Rock Music like power-ballad, "Saving us" as well as the slightly jazzy, pleasantly calm piano-song: "Elect the dead".
