'Völur' is derived from "Völva", who is a seer from the Nordic folklore. The band does not seek to fulfil pagan wishes, neither content-wise nor music-wise. The band is from Canada; however, they are fascinated by European history. They are familiar with Germanic sagas and are influenced by them in their everyday lives, especially by their relationship towards culture and spirituality. The trio with Blood Ceremony bassist Lucas Gadke consists of drummer James Payment from the post rock veterans Do Make Say Think and the experimental violinist Laura C. Bates. They are definitely a unique mix, which is also represented in their music. 'Völur' combines manifold influences, from Fairport Convention's pastoral prog to drone doom by Earth with part of different folk traditions and a preference for the rather dark styles of metal and a sound, which is catchy but heavy at the same time.

'Völur's music comes with a concept. Nevertheless, every output emphasis another aspect of it. The debut "Disir", a cassette from 2014, deals with female ghosts and is now re-released as a digipak CD.
