by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (24.07.2009) In the southern parts of Germany, many Death Metal bands name Scandinavian outfits as their idols - in northern Germany, more local combos have their godfathers on the other side of the pond and sound more like some extreme US deathsters. That rule also applies to Sufferage, hailing from Hamburg: on their fourth album (the second one without female vocals), they totally neglect any melodies, or just let them come up shortly, as in the instrumental "Nothingness". Brutal. Weird enough, the growler's last name is FrΓΆhlich which means "happy"... Regarding compositions, they have adopted a bit of the old and the new Chris Barnes: the roughness of his ex-employers Cannibal Corpse and the groove of his current band Six Feet Under. Unfortunately, the drums sound as artificial as in a Fear Factory production, but the younger fans won't care anyway: they'll just enjoy the slams and soundtrakcs to their circle pits. On "Cadaver Evolution", you'll even detect some keyboard sounds. 13 songs, squeezed in 45 minutes of playing time - compact stuff.
