    Return to NOD

by Starbuck (07.10.2007) Yes, the U.S. trio returns, and no less than Jack Endino has produced the album. New on board is ex-Zeke bass player, Jeff Matz, who obviously injected some new impulses to the guys because High On Fire sound more explosive and tighter than ever. And first of all, they have heavily increased the pace. The eleven songs turn out to be a heavy, fierce bastard bursting with heavy riffs that cite MotΓΆrhead as well as bands, like Down. Or to put it this way: have you ever heard a mix of Down, C.O.C. and MotΓΆrhead? The ultimate hammer of anger. Listeneing to doublebass-killers, like "Rumors of war" – Lemmy would be proud of you, guys – and "Waste of tiamat" it is quite unbelievable if you know where the roots of this band are. Uncompromising is the least you can say about what happens on this album, this is finest bulldozer-sound. Fucked off, raw, dirty, angry – all at once and simply awesome. High On Fire release a little masterpiece with which they leave their competitors behind by miles. Brilliant!
