Article description

Rhythmics play a signigicant role in the modern, often slowed-down variant of Swedish Death Metal, but This Ending is much more than just a side project of the Amon Amarth drummer, as they're a band with a distinct identity of their own. First pressing with two bonus tracks.

by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (29.02.2009) No ending, but a sequel - of A Carnorous Quintett, and they still are a perfectly oiled machine. Their music is a far cry from their other projects, in spite of some superficial similarities, so you shouldn’t consider the catchy opener "Trace of sin" a potshot at Guidance Of Sin. But as on their debut (2007), they still have a penchant for modern Death Metal - Amon Amarth’s drummer Frederik demonstrates his versatility with some unusual grooves ("Delusionists"). The boys have cut back on the samples, though, and so the Cyber touch is not that pre-eminent any more - with "Instigator of dead flesh" being the only exception. Even "Machinery" has more melodic solo work than icy atmosphere... But lo and behold - somebody steps on the accelerator during the third song: very carefully, but still noticeable! We get some more of that later, though: check out "Army of the dying sun" in "Deathtrade". Swedish Death has arrived in the 21st century.
