"Cycles" CD by Rotten Sound

by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (04.01.2008) With bands, like General Surgery, Regurgitate as well as Necrony, who later turned into Nasum, Sweden was long the ultimate capital for Grind in Scandinavia. Since 1993, Rotten Sound have claimed their pretensions for the throne and finally made Finland the genre-paradise all by themselves. Also ten years after their debut album, the noisy troop is "Still psycho". "Sold out" has no autobiographic touch. The frequency of 18 songs in less than twice as many minutes proves: Rotten Sound may become technically more professional but in terms of format they still make no compromise. Also their fifth album is no personal "Harmony corruption", no turn away from brutal Grind to Death Metal or any other form of expression. On the contrary to many newcomers, the Finns know that in Grind, too, there is more than blasts and that especially the tough riffs and rhythms stamp the name of this musical extreme. Some solo fragments, some Industrial references in Brutal Truth-way and the melodic closer, "Trust" are the salt in the heavy soup.
