by Patrick Schmidt (01/02) There it is, long awaited by fans, media and the band itself alike, the eighth studio album by Hypocrisy! If you've read the interviews for it as well as the reports on "Catch 22", you will have heard that the three Swedes are heading for the big breakthrough with this album. A plan that could be realized because the song material is strong enough to appeal to a wider audience without pissing their old fans off. In comparison to records, like "Hypocrisy" or "Abducted", "Catch 22" is weaker, but it's still a convincing, partly surprisingly modern Metal-album. Starting off with almost Nu Metal-like riffs in songs, such as "A Public Puppet", one may be a bit irritated, but its due to these experiments with modern influences that this album is so interesting. With "Destroyed", "Edge Of Madness" or the mega-cool "Another Dead End", Hypocrisy have included at least three more true hits, provided with the typical Hypocrisy-harmonies and revealing a true hymn-character. Probably the most important album for Hypocrisy - this or that way.
