Triumphant black metal supremacy from former Mayhem guitarist and Vltimas founder Blasphemer. RUÏM was founded in 2020 by the Norwegian-born and Grammy-winning guitarist Blasphemer (Rune Eriksen), known from bands such as Vltimas and Mayhem. Blasphemer is supported on drums by French-born drummer César Vesvre (Agressor, Thagirion). Driven by a strong desire to revive the style of music he has been dedicated to since the mid 90s, and inspired by the rediscovery of a long-lost tape of old, unused riffs from 98/99’s Mayhem era, the idea of starting a new project based on these ideas quickly formed. A new vision was soon born for an album embedded in Brazilian witchcraft and left-hand path of the Umbanda tradition – a practice Blasphemer himself was schooled in – to deliver a new black work in the vein Blasphemer has been known for since forming Mayhem in 1994 (until 2007).

‘Black royal spiritism - I.o sino de igreja’ is RUÏM’s first studio album. It offers a glimpse into something new, unique, visionary and highly eclectic. The album marks the beginning of a concept which will span a trilogy of releases that explore and incorporate a deeply personal expression of Blasphemer’s own beliefs in relation to the greater spirits of the left-hand path. ‘Black Royal Spiritism’ is a pitch-black work, permeated with menacing, eerie, unnerving darkness. Each track is carefully woven with an eerie undercurrent underlined by Blasphemer’s distinctive brutal riffing style with atmospheric, ambient and clean passages amidst the chaos. The vocals on ‘Black Royal Spiritism - I - O Sino De Igreja’ are also by Blasphemer himself, singing in a mixture of English, Portuguese and Norwegian, with the lyrical themes rooted in a celebration of and devotion to the lore and rituals of the Linha da Esquerda.
