The Santa Barbara gang unleashes a hell of a juggernaut with its fifth album! Once again, front devil Dez Fafara conjures the dark forces and calls the demons of the abyss. Wild, untamable, dark, and threatening - that’s the impression you get when listening to the 13 unholy tracks which easily pick up where the last output “Pray for villains“ left. It’s a neck-breaking ride through a barrage of guitars, a thick atmosphere of imminent doom, a pumping groove, and Fafara’s inimitable aggressive vocals - Devildriver have honed their act for years, and “Beast” makes for another awesome gem brimming with all assets of the Nu / Death / Black Metal genre. Starting with pure fury („Bring the fight (to the floor)“, „You make me sick“), touching almost palpable darkness („Shitlist“, „Crowns of creation“), until the genuine neck-wreckers („Talons out (teeth sharpened)“, „Black soul choir“) – here’s a new synonym for lunacy, folks: Devildriver!
