12.This Time
by Marcel Anders (01/03) Two and a half years after "The better life" and the monster hit, "Kryptonite", 3 Doors Down dare another trial for the rock Olympus. This time as a quartet (without drummer Richard Lyles), with 12 tracks that are much more matured and melodic, but this strength also is their weakness. The juvenile wildness and the coolness of their multi-million-selling debut has gone. After endless touring, piles of hit singles and rock stardom, the former shooting stars seem burned and empty. It's amost as if all the powder has been shot or as if all the trouble in the last years was too much. Most of the tracks just lack in the boundless will to rock. Sure, Todd Harrell still has an ingenious voice and also the guitars of Chris Henderson and Matt Roberts play nice power riffs, but uptempo tracks, like "The road I'm on" or "Going down in flames" are the minority. "Away from the sun" is much too much mid-tempo, too many ballads and too much boredom. What a pity! (Marcel Anders - 01/03)
