11.The Darker Side
by Riccardo Manazza (17.10.2007) After the fabulous re-release of the assumed solo album, "Master of disguise" from 1989 in the back, the two fast reckonings, "Abnormal" (with very European melody lines) and "Appointment with death" come rolling over the listener: up to track five ("The death of love"), this ain't no Broadway-Hardrock β Lizzy lets the bloody axe circle and revives his own motto, American Metal. Other bands would quieten a solo-madman, like Ira Black, with ritalin. But here, the ex-Heathen and current Vicious Rumors guitar-God is let free in all situations. "Live forever" is aumping midtempo hitters with an 80s-radio hit chorus while "Bloody tears" is already more lively again featuring great choirs. Lizzy knows why he loves the Beatles and covered McCartney's "Live and let die" long before W. Axel Rose. "Deal with the devil" had already been an adequate comeback album at the beginning of the Millennium but still no comparison to this piece of adrenaline. Brute Heavy Metal, loosened up with Alice Cooper-like Hardrock songs, like "Under your skin".
