by Patrick Schmidt (01/01) In Flames-Freaks beware: For some time now, Soilwork is trying to push your Γ¬ favourites off the melodic Death Metal throne, and if you ask me, with "A Γ¬ predator's portrait" they have reached their aim. The Swedish 6-piece band Γ¬ has progressed heavily since the predecessor "The chainheart machine" and Γ¬ now releases a true classic! The mixture of aggressive and melodic parts is Γ¬ breathtaking, just like the manual abilities of the young musicians. Singer Γ¬ BjΓΆrn Strid is exhausting his full potential and does shrink back of clear Γ¬ vocals, meanwhile, which helps to let the music of Soilwork find its own Γ¬ identity and uniqueness. The compostitions are very first class, songs like Γ¬ "Like the average stalker", the gloomy "Structure divine" or the merciless Γ¬ banger "Grand failure anthem" are potential hits. That's exactly how Γ¬ technically perfect melodic Death Metal has to sound. For me, a hot Γ¬ candidate for the title of the album of the year! (Patrick Schmidt - Γ¬ 01/01)
