The Blood, The Wine, The Roses

by Markus Wosgien (05.10.2006) My Dying Bride has their own, unique sound and it's fascinating to see with which continuity and conviction they do their thing. "A line of deathless kings" sounds very powerful and majestic and you feel reminded of an old horror film that gets along without special effects, but still is completely intense and thrilling. Almost all the songs are of extended length and My Dying Bride often get into some kind of high condition and you just want more of this. Highlight is the dragging, doomy "I cannot be loved" that at the same time reveals some ear wig qualities, making you really addicted. My Dying Bride is more than Doom or Gothic, their music is unique and absolutely perfect. Sadness, frustration, coldness and hopelessness, all this is turned inside out on "A line of deathless kings" - and it's a cure! At some point you are in trance - the song title "And I walk with them" says it all. The opus is rounded off with the phenomenal "The blood, the wine, the roses"!
