11.Watch The Children Pray (New Version) (Bonustrack)
by Matthias Mineur (11.07.2006) Also if the latest German tour of the metal clerics took place in front of relatively empty ranks: this disappointment couldn't decrease the importance of Metal Church. Because still, Kurdt Vanderhoof and his fellows produce a convincing heavy metal that skilfully varies between tradition and modern sounds. Especially dynamic is "A light in the dark" supposed to sound, says Vanderhoof, and refers to the new member Jeff Plate, a drummer with the license to groove. Plate used to be in Savatage and knows how to create energy and dynamics. Even more than his predecessor, Kirk Arrington, who had to quit his job for health problem reasons, Plate adds a tremendous lot of power to the Vanderhoof-compositions and at the same time shows how to deal with unusual and progressive arrangements. Rounded off is the new album by a re-recording of the classic, "We watch the children pray", a tribute to the Metal Church-singer David Wayne, who dies in May 2005.
