A thrilling mix of adventure, love, fantasy and history, Outlander takes fans through time, following the upheaval of nurse Claire Randall's life. As a combat nurse during World War II, Claire has first-hand experience of the atrocities of war. She treats seriously wounded soldiers and tries her best to save their lives, knowing full well that this can't always happen.

As the years pass by, Claire can only dream of the end of the brutal war. When the war ends in 1945, Claire finally gets back on her feet and starts planning her second honeymoon in the Scottish Highlands with her husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies).

Why the Scottish Highlands? Frank is a passionate historian and Claire a burgeoning amateur botanist. It's the perfect place for the couple to forget the horrors of World War II and to start enjoying life.

They discover breath-taking monuments and landscapes on their trip through the Highlands, but Claire stumbles upon an ancient stone circle. She becomes fascinated by this extraordinary place, and decides to return without Frank - so far so good, right?

Kind of...as she touches the mysterious stones, she falls unconscious. But when she wakes up, she's no longer in 1945, but actually in 1743 at the time of the second Jacobite uprising. Right before her eyes, she sees the Scottish Catholics and the English Protestants fighting in a bloody, gruesome battle.

After managing to travel back in time 200 years, a new adventure begins for Claire Randall. That adventure includes being forced into marrying Scottish soldier Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and, as romance blossoms between the two, Claire's heart is torn between the past and present. Poor Claire. Oh I have two amazingly handsome men in love with me spanning centuries.

Her husband Frank is in the present - but it's a childless marriage, and she'd always dreamed of having a large family. And then there's also the past (Claire's present, so to speak), where it's a lot more dangerous. Claire's rights as a woman are, well, they don’t exist, but her new husband Jamie wants to start a family. A totally unexpected journey begins for Claire, pushing her to her limits.
