Creepers are shoes with a very unique design. They are cut like normal sneakers or sneakers, but equipped with an extra thick, eye-catching rubber sole. This offbeat design goes back to very practical reasons. When American and British soldiers fought in the hot deserts of North Africa during World War II, the thick soles, which were made of crepe at the time, were a must.
Once they were back home, they simply continued to wear these boots, because after all, they were and are particularly comfortable and offer a very special wearing sensation. They finally became a style classic in the fifties, when the rebellious and exquisitely well-dressed subculture of the Teddy Boys developed and relied on the fancy shoes. Today, the Creepers are the shoes of choice in many other scenes that feature a highly individual style of dress, for example...
Punk, industrial and rockabilly: for all creepers...
It was perhaps inevitable that punk, with its fondness for clothing with military origins, would take a liking to the distinctive shoes with the thick soles. After all, they were as comfortable as they were rugged, and were an ideal match for military jackets and other designs typical of the subculture. Based on this, it was only logical that other alternative scenes that followed punk also adopted the Creepers. Thus, the shoes were worn in modern, flat designs as well as classic boots by fans of industrial, which in turn had a significant influence on parts of gothic culture. Alongside this, in keeping with their Fifties origins, creepers established themselves as shoes of the rockabilly scene, where they were as popular for their look, which was in part inspired by the Teddies, as they were for their suitability as dancing shoes.
Today, the shoes no longer exist only as variants of men's shoes and boots, but also in many more evolved designs that also have numerous followers among emos and in other modern subcultures. And even in ordinary street wear, creepers are increasingly found as the shoes of choice when a special touch is needed to spice up the usual outfit for everyday wear.
... Creepers for everyone!
No matter what scene you feel you belong to, or if you're just doing your own thing, you'll find a wide selection of classic and modern styled creepers for your own personal style at the EMP Online Shop. The truly aptly named Industrial Punk brand, for example, offers models that are quite simple and suitable for many styles and occasions as plain leather shoes.
But beyond that, there is much more to discover: Creepers shoes, which offer an interesting contrast to the thick, black sole with an overly detailed, colorful floral pattern or are trimmed with lace for that very special Industrial Goth look. In addition, individual models are printed with crosses, spider webs or Aztec motifs that draw the eye and liven up the design with a custom touch.
And lovers of a sporty style will also find creepers in other collections that are modelled on quite typical, particularly cosy sneakers. What they all have in common is that they are just as high quality processed as they are visually interesting, so that they will also get you effortlessly through a night of dancing or an evening in the club. After all, the motto is: quiet kicks, loud performance!
