by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (24.07.2009) You’d hardly believe Christian Silver started his musical career as drummer of Gothic / Electro Metal crew Sundown: now a producer, he has provided his Swedish compatriots As We Drown with a reeeeally intense and aggressive sound. Well, it won’t attack you, but if I were you, I wouldn’t get too close either. Meaning: the youngsters think a straight song is old-fashioned and so yesterday, and they like their productions transparent instead of rough’n’dirty, but they still sound like human beings and not like robots (some exceptions - check the drum parts - just serve as a confirmation of this rule). You may find them influenced by Behemoth sometimes, especially in the slower passages - As We Drown are in no way just simple and stupid brutes. Old school Death purists will shun this like the colour white, but for an open-minded listener, this mixture of Deathcore, Groove and disharmonic Prog Death Metal is state of the art.
