by Markus Wosgien (27.06.2007) Octavia Sperati was the favourite sister of Emperor Augustus. Loved by the people she was not only adored for her beauty, but also for her intelligence and strength. Five of the six members of the Norwegian band are women, so it was close at hand to choose a name reflecting their powers. On their second album they appear a bit heavier and more rocky than on the debut, "Winter enclosure", still, the basic Doom character has remained. They name such different influences, like Black Sabbath, Darkthrone and Type O Negative, but I would compare their sound especially to The Gathering or their country fellows, Madder Mortem. Cold, gloomy, and yet melodic and anthemnic. The ten tracks light their fire only after a few listenings, but then the enjoyment is even more intense and more powerful. The whole album is very atmospheric and mystical, like a nightly ride through the Norwegian fjords. Definitely an adventure rounded off by the emotional Thin Lizzy cover version of "Don't believe a word".
