by Adam Weishaupt (12.08.2009) His infernal majesty Nergal and his entourage are at it once again: the Poles manage to find the perfect combination of technically sophisticated and modern Death plus dark and uncompromising Black Metal. The nine tracks are fast as hell, evil as the devil and in spite of their versatility, straight as an arrow. You just have to sing along to mega-fast "Shemhamforash" - while the macabre and weird melody lines are driving you mad at the same time. Rarely before have Behemoth been that catchy without changing too many of their trademarks - with "Evangelion", they deliver a treasure chest filled with smashers. Regarding emotion and atmosphere, the songs are still ice-cold and relentless as a dagger. Various special effects and sound collages make for an intense and authentic feel which reminds you of other legendary genre outputs... "Sventevith" and "Grom" are two wonderful epitomes of Behemoth's raw brutality - "Evangelion" even tops them off. Kudos.
