Ariel, The Little Mermaid

If we have learned one thing from The Little Mermaid, then it's the fact that sea creatures really know how to party. Is there anybody who didn't want to dive headfirst into the ocean when the song "Under The Sea" was played, armed with a steel drum to join the party? This Disney movie simply has it all: Great songs, funny characters and a love story. Still, it is in no way meant only for girls . Boys need not hide their love for Ariel, and do you know why? Because the ending was inspired by one of the greatest movies ever, namely f***ing "Die Hard". The original ending of The Little Mermaid was rather unspectacular. When Jeffrey Katzenberg, Disney's then-CEO, saw it during a screening, he was underwhelmed. He wanted it bigger and better or in short (quote): "More Die Hard!". For this reason, the first version was ditched and an alternate ending implemented. It's the one we know now and, as said before, quite "Die Hard", especially for Ursula, that old sea hag. Next time you watch the movie and get to the scene where Eric impales her with the broken mast, imagine him saying: "Yippee ki-yay, motherfucker!"

Well, Disney's princesses were already a tough bunch in the 80s. This is why there has to be appropriate fan merch in our EMP Online Shop. There you will find tops and other clothes for the movie The Little Mermaid as well as a gilded chainlet by Disney Couture with a coloured Ariel pendant.
