The fictional character Hello Kitty was created by the Japanese company Fanrio in 1976. Sanrio designer Yuko Shimizu drew it - and invented a new cult figure. The fictional biography says that Kitty White was born on November 1 in London and really loves apple cake. She owes her white cat face to the Japanese Bobtail, a breed of cat that the Japanese consider a lucky charm. Another characteristic feature is the pink ribbon on her left ear. She has to make do without a mouth so that Kitty-admirers can project their respective feelings onto her. Thanks to the predominantly pink colouring, the original target group were little girls, but in recent years, the logo has become more and more popular among grown-ups as well. The first product manufactured was a small wallet. These days, there are more than 22.000 different products by Hello Kitty. During the last few years, even more friends and family members were added. Now, Hello Kitty has a twin sister named Mimmy and since 2004, two pets as well.
