Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and band are back on track and announcing their return with a bang. The legendary New Yorker thrashers Overkill present their upcoming album (their eighteenth) under the title 'The Grinding Wheel'. The LP was produced by the band itself, with controller icon Andy Sneap (Testament, Exodus, Accept) taking care of the mixing. The cool artwork stems once again from Travis Smith (Nevermore, Opeth, Soilwork, Death) and fits the album's tone to a T. You should definitely check out the teaser track 'Our Finest Hour'.

Back into the highest league

It may sound really hard to believe, but somehow good old OVERKILL managed to make the wheels (the grinding wheels) of the time machine turning and brought forth the new album really worth their finest ones from the eighties. From the 100% killer song “Our Finest Hour” to any other on offer here, everything is simply top notch. Moreover, it wasn’t just the rewriting their old songs, but rather making the new ones shining almost as bright as they could many years back. Welcome back, OVERKILL! The only problem with this release seems to be the pure efforts of the pressing plant, as at least the three (out of three) copies of it are really wavy. I believe Nuclear Blast should take care of it.

Their finest hour… in years

“Our Finest Hour”, the title of one of the tracks from the brand new OVERKILL album (released as a single as well) is one hell of a title, nailing just perfectly the essence of that song, their finest in many years. But still one excellent song doesn’t make a good album without being backed up by the other ones from its track list, so what about them, are they up to the high standard set by the leader of the pack? Fortunately, for the most part they really are, making “The Grinding Wheel” the best OVERKILL effort in many years.
