Many agree that The Who are the best British rock band to come out of the 1960s. With ‘The Many Faces of The Who’, we discover the fascinating world of a band, their influences, side projects and, above all, their songs, which are absolute treasures in themselves.

The first CD from ‘The Many Faces’ presents bassist John Entwistle as a solo artist. His career began in 1971 once he recognised how few of his songs were making it into the band’s repertoire. The collection ‘The Many Faces’ devotes three tracks to solo songs of his that were originally composed for The Who: ‘Heaven and Hell’ (the original version and the B side of the 1970 single ‘Summertime Blues’) and the songs ‘Whiskey Man’ and ‘My Wife’, in which John lets his familiar sarcasm and sharp humour shine through in the lyrics.

The second CD contains a rarity that’ll surely please fans: the album ‘The Who Sell Out’ in its entirety, with the original sequences from Petra Haden, jazz bassist Charlie Haden’s daughter from New York.

Last but not least, the third CD of ‘The Many Faces’ series includes many of The Who’s most important songs covered by bands who consider themselves fans of the group such as Ocean Colour Scene and tribute bands like The Young Mods and The Quick Ones. In addition, there are covers by underground bands like Hyperhead and The Brilliant Corners as well as from artists who you’d never think would do covers of The Who, for example The Glitter Band, Poison Idea or singer Yvonne Elliman.
