Even if you keep in mind that times have changed and that it's been a while since the On Stage album was recorded, you're in for a shock... The first songs are a shocker. I wasn't expecting the energy from the '76 - '79 recordings but these first songs are so different and played super slow. It's so bad that I regretted buying the album.
After listening to the album several times I've come to the conclusion that you simply have to throw out / skip the first record... Well, at least the first side of the first record. Although side B is slightly better, I simply skip both side A and B. Then it's a good album.
Okay, don't get me wrong. Ronnie Romero is a great singer. And once Ritchie has warmed up, his guitar playing is still better than the average guitar player. All in all, it's a good album for die-hard Rainbow fans.
