Comes as a re-release on black vinyl (180 g).

Before the end of the millennium, Mercyful Fate call it quits with the delivery of "9" - which is quite sad, what with the consolidated line-up and the classy material... But so, the portfolio of the Danes now consists exclusively of real Metal classics indeed.

Hopefully not their "Last Rites"

Having flirted a bit with some progressive overtones on this album's predecessor "Dead Again", on their end-of-the-millennium effort, simply entitled "9", MERCYFUL FATE decided to play it safe and returned to their traditional style and sound. Can't say it was a bad idea (even though "Dead Again" wasn't a failure either). Some early albums purists may find "9" sounding too KING DIAMOND (the band) for their taste, but for the fans of both MERCYFUL FATE and KING DIAMOND it isn't a big deal really. Terminator alike artwork of this album has always amused me. Nothing wrong with it, but whenever I look at it, it always reminds me the final scenes of some early Terminator movie. On to some less amusing thing, its very sad to realize that for almost 20 years this one is being the latest album of MERCYFUL FATE. Can it really be their last one forever? Let's hope and pray it isn't.

MERCYFUL FATE forever

It was almost two decades since MERCYFUL FATE came up with their last album, simply called "9". It doesn't really matter if there will ever be another one or not, in any case this one is great enough to be the worthy end of their career. Its the classic MERCYFUL FATE from the first to the last note, in every riff and every song. Moreover, this new Metal Blade reissue on high quality heavy vinyl have an outstanding sound courtesy of Patrick W. Engel which did the special vinyl mastering for this release.
