Give winter the middle finger with this big beast of a warm trenchy!

I've been looking for a nice, warm coat to wear during my daily commute to work in Edinburgh, which can often be a cold, cold place during the winter. When I'm wearing shorter jackets and the wind is howling and driving the rain/sleet/snow horizontally down from the sky, it often results in me getting to work and finding that I'm soaking wet from the waist down, which ain't exactly a pleasant feeling so I thought I'd look for something a bit longer. Something a bit trenchy and coaty, perhaps.

The problem that I encountered for most of my searching for a long coat is that they're often rather 'traditional' looking and made for businessmen or trendy hipsters - which just isn't my style, so it was with great glee that I saw this coat and even greater glee when I discovered that it was being sold at nearly half it's normal price. Some would even call it a bargain.

It's a lot of coat for the money - and I would have even bought it at full-price, as it's really rather marvelous. It's made from a really thick and heavy wool-like material and has a lovely lining. There are some nice military-style touches to it, such as the epaulets on, the the tops of the shoulders and the collar. Alongside these military touches are some nice modern twists, such as the asymmetrically aligned zip and the zips on the pockets and cuffs.

I've been wearing it to work for about a week now and absolutely love it. The mornings have been particularly cold the past week, with one morning (Thursday, I think) being particularly bleak with howling, freezing wind and sleet. Lemme tell you (I shall say zis anly wance) I felt all the better for being wrapped in this big beastie of of coat. It's really, really warm - but not the cloying, sweaty kind of warm that you can get from coats or jackets made from synthetic materials - more a cosy, dry warmth. It also totally stops the wind in its tracks and when the coat has been zipped up it's almost like wearing a big, but awesomely cool-looking blanket. When it's a little more mild, I leave it unzipped and feel like a detective in a noir crime thriller as I swish around wearing this. Or something.

If I had one minor complaint about the coat, it's that the zip doesn't go up quite as far as I'd like and leaves the neck completely open to the elements. This is however easily remedied with a scarf or long-necked jumper, so it's not a major issue. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this coat to those who, like me, have a taste in clothing that's non-standard and are looking for something big, long and warm to wrap themselves in on those long, cold, dark winter days.

Great winter coat

I feel as snug as a bug in a rug wearing this. Very comfy and warm (and I live on the coast.) And it looks great too!

great coat

After buying a coat, which ended up being sized too small and having to send it back I ordered this one, in a larger size. This fits my husband perfectly and is heavy and warm. A great coat.
