Fates Warning contributed to the development of heavy metal music, which can not be overemphasized. And at the same time, they, in fact, inventors of the progressive-metal style, always found themselves in very tight financial conditions. Why it happened can be a long guessing-reasoning. Probably bad luck is guilty. This is their third album, on which they emerged from the shadow of the Iron Maiden giants. Although the influence of the latter here is palpable, on this record the FW has acquired its own, not a face like anyone else. In their music, the forthcoming prog-metal is clearly heard, the structure of the songs is complex, the rhythm often changes in each song. But, first of all, pay attention to MELODY! Listening to "The Sorceress", "Valley Of The Dolls", "Prelude To Ruin", etc. There is an acute need to build a "goat" and shake a hair. Having listened to the disc (I'm sure) a man will play the chorus of many songs from him ("Fata Morgana", 3rd thing on album, for sure) all day. Yes, it's progressive-metal, but first of all it's a double, bright, hairy HMR from the 80's! Such albums (in spirit) for a long time already nobody did. Score - 10 points (was the highest score of 1000-would be 1000).
